Theme for the Day: Signs Of Love … Change Everything!
October Pentecost Theme: Celebrating And Sharing Signs Of Love In The Grace Of Jesus Christ!
Readings: John 8:31-36
Some things do more than simply change our circumstances. They change everything.
On Reformation Sunday, we celebrate the good news at the heart of our Lutheran faith: God's grace is freely given to us through Jesus Christ. We do not earn God's love, work our way into God's favor, or somehow make ourselves worthy. Grace comes first. God loves us, forgives us, claims us, and sets us free.
In this week's Gospel, Jesus promises, “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” Jesus is the truth who reveals God's perfect love for us. He is the Son who sets us free. He is God's grace made known among us. This sign of perfect love changes everything.
The Reformation reminds us that the Church is always being called back to this truth. When grace is at the center, we see ourselves differently. We see our neighbors differently. We discover freedom to serve rather than earn, to give rather than keep score, and to love because God has first loved us.
As we continue Celebrating And Sharing Signs Of Love In The Grace Of Jesus Christ!, we give thanks for the greatest sign of love of all, Jesus Christ. In Him, we are forgiven. In Him, we are made free. In Him, we are continually made new.
