Theme for the Day: Signs Of Love … All Is God’s!
October Pentecost Theme: Celebrating And Sharing Signs Of Love In The Grace Of Jesus Christ!
Readings: Matthew 22:15-22
What belongs to God?
In this week's Gospel, Jesus is confronted with a question meant to trap Him: Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor? Looking at the coin placed before Him, Jesus responds with words that have echoed through generations: “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
It may sound like a simple division, but Jesus invites us to consider something much greater. If our lives, our gifts, our relationships, our resources, and all of creation come from God, then what truly belongs to God? Everything.
Recognizing that all is God's changes the way we see what has been entrusted to us. Our time becomes an opportunity to serve. Our gifts become opportunities to bless. Our resources become opportunities to care for our neighbors. Our very lives become signs of love, reflecting the grace we have first received from God.
As we continue Celebrating And Sharing Signs Of Love In The Grace Of Jesus Christ!, we give thanks that God does not ask us to create these signs of love on our own. God first gives generously to us. Through Jesus Christ, we receive grace, forgiveness, hope, and new life, and we are invited to share those gifts freely with others.
