The Wonderful Cross

Watts/Tomlin

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

See from His head
His hands His feet
Sorrow and love
Flow mingled down
Did e’er such love
And sorrow meet
Or thorns compose
So rich a crown

refrain:
Oh the wonderful cross
Oh the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die
And find that I may truly live
Oh the wonderful cross
Oh the wonderful cross
All who gather here
By grace draw near
And bless Your name

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an off’ring far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul my life my all

(refrain)

I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
— Isaiah 43:19

Do you know any prophets? What do you think a prophet is? Does it help if I tell you, Lord of Life and The Kingdom are blessed with you and so many prophets?

Prophets are messengers of God, who tell others what God is telling them, who tell others the truth about God, who tell others they themselves trust God first!

I give thanks for each of you, for each of you being a prophet, for your prophetic voice and presence in my presence, and in the presence of so many others, for sharing your faith, as you so boldly share your prophetic voice and speak your trust in God and God's love in your life.

Every time you walk through the church doors, you are a prophet! Every day you go out or reach out into the world, you are a prophet! The world in the midst of uncertainties, fears, unknowns, worry, stress, anxiety, is longing for every prophet that will speak, give witness, be faithful. Thanks be to God, God has blessed the world with many prophets! Thanks be to God for you!

Are you maybe still feeling not as sure as others you know, are you feeling less secure than Isaiah, are you not sure where to start? Do you know Who is thirsting for you to have a deep thirst to share The Story? Trust God's thirst for you is renewed each day, and quenched each day, blessing you to do a new thing, to spring forth new life in you, for you to perceive it! If you ever wonder what message The Kingdom is thirsting for, what word you are being asked to send or where to start, share the message loud and clear in the simple, powerful, renewing life and calling and voice and grace, in The Wonderful Cross!

Let us pray: Jesus, I rarely feel like a prophet, like one of your messengers. By your Holy Spirit, renew me, keep thirsting for me. Bless me by your grace, reassure me, make me more secure, to know where to begin, to begin with my thirst for you, and for all that is so amazing, so divine; to know I live, to boldly share the message of you, and the wonderful cross. In your name, I will not stay silent, as I pray, loud and clear. Amen.
