Open the Eyes of My Heart
Baloche
Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.””
"Put your back into it." We hear this phrase all the time. What do you put your back into? What are you willing to commit yourself to? To put a little extra effort into? How does that feel? How do you feel afterward? Sore? Kind of proud?
"Put your heart into it." This requires something completely different.
Did you catch that? Completely? How do you feel when you do this, when you put your heart completely into something? Do you feel complete?
When you put your back into something, you put your hard work into it. This is good. When you put your heart into something, you put yourself into it; you put that center of who you are into it. This is best.
As we continue our journey through this Lenten season, let us be renewed as we see The Spirit is tirelessly and creatively at work finding new ways to bless us, and finding new ways for us to put our whole heart into this holy season, into God’s grace!
The Lord of life who is gracious and merciful, is forever putting His whole heart into you! The Lord does not see as mortals see; the Lord looks on the heart. The Lord knows we make mistakes, we forsake our faith, and yet the Lord sees the hope faith gives; He sees our heart, as He opens the eyes of our heart in new and complete and creative ways!
Samuel was afraid and unsure, as he was asked to anoint the one who would next answer God's call; David. How would he, Samuel, know who would be faithful, who God would put his heart into? Like Samuel, even when you are unsure and afraid, trust God in grace puts his whole heart completely into you! You caught that, right? Completely!
Let us pray: Lord, I do not always put my whole heart completely into you. Give me strength when my back is not really into discipleship. Give me hope and new life, when I am afraid and unsure, when my faith forsakes trusting you. Completely and creatively, open the eyes of my heart to see Your heart, O God. By your grace alone, I put my heart into you today. In Jesus' name, I pray in complete faith. Amen.
