I Love To Tell The Story

Fischer

I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above
Of Jesus and his glory
Of Jesus and his love
I love to tell the story
Because I know it is true
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else would do

I love to tell the story
I'll sing this theme in glory
And tell the old old story
Of Jesus and his love

And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.”
— John 4:41-42

These days, a lot of people are streaming or binge watching a wide range of movies and TV shows. What are you watching? What is your go to movie, show, story?

What is your favorite story? You know, that story that catches your ear every time you hear it. The story you cannot put down once you pick it up. The story that you first heard as a child, and you still think about to brighten your day. The story that stops the TV remote as you are flipping through the channels.

We like to watch and read and hear stories over and over. Hearing the same story over and over fills us, inspires us again, helps us catch the little things we missed before.

The woman left the well with the Good News of living water, with news of the One who knew everything about her, with news of The Messiah. The people heard her testimony, and then they heard the Story for themselves, first hand.

Hearing a story is good. Hearing the story first hand is better. Hearing the story again and again, loving the story, loving to tell the story, loving to tell the Story we know is true, stops us, brightens our day, gives us hope and comfort and assurance. Behold, let us never put it down. Behold, let us catch things we have missed. Behold, let us be filled anew, let us believe anew, for we know the Savior!

Let us pray: Lord, sometimes I think I know your story so well, I rarely go back to your Word. I think I know it well enough, I think because someone else has told me, I do not have to go to the Story first hand, and yet, I have become very aware, just how much I long for your story. Behold, what a story! The Story of Jesus and his love, The Story I know is true! Give me a new spirit, to hear the story again, to read it first hand again, to read so closely I catch things I missed before, to read again the Story I love to tell. Amen.
