My Faith Looks Up to Thee
Palmer & Mason
My faith looks up to thee
Thou Lamb of Calvary Savior divine
Now hear me while I pray
Take all my guilt away
Oh let me from this day
Be wholly thine
“Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city.”
What has hold of you? Many of us are blessed with a very rich and deep faith, and yet, we still hold onto other things. Why do we do that? Is not the Lamb of Calvary, our Savior divine, enough to behold? How do we let go of all the rest? How do we leave our jars behind, and go back to our lives filled with living water? How do we go on faith alone?
The woman at the well had been married five times before, and now was with someone who was not her husband. She was a social outcast. The woman came by herself. Being an outcast, she probably had very little that was her own. At least she had a jar to carry water. Now she was willing to leave even this behind. Behold, the faith this took!
What would it be like to leave behind your whole self, and to become whole?
Behold, may each of us leave the jars that have hold of us! Behold, the One who fills our jars, our very spirits! Behold, the One who has hold of us! Behold, the One who gives powerful, renewing water! Behold, our faith looks up to thee!
Let us pray: Lord, I often fail to let go of my jars, to simply let my faith look up to thee. I praise you and your faithfulness, for filling me. By your Spirit, I leave my jar, and trust in your renewing power and grace alone. In your name I leave all else behind, and I am more whole than ever before, as I pray. Amen.
