“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”
Do you like it best when you know what is coming your way? Are you better off, without surprises? I know many people who would rather not be surprised, with anything - parties, visitors, changes in plans, etc.
What about good surprises? What about the unexpected? What about the life-giving, Paradise-revealing surprises sent our way?
God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son ... surprise!
That everyone who believed in him, not everyone who was perfect, everyone who believed in him may not perish, but have eternal life ... surprise!
There is a new party planned; The Visitor has come, and will come again; plans for salvation have changed ... surprise!
The Spirit of the living God falls afresh on you ... surprise!
The Spirit melts you, molds you, fills you, uses you ... yes, you ... surprise!
Seven simple powerful words: "God so loved the world, he gave" ....this is grace ...this is Paradise ... surprise!
Let us pray: Lord, today I tell you there are times I avoid surprises, even good ones, even you and your grace. I like to know what is coming. How could I know, expect, or anticipate your love for me. Surprise me again today in your grace alone. May I never be surprised, that every day I am with you in Paradise. Fall afresh on me anywhere, anytime. In the renewing power and joy of your surprising grace, I pray. Amen.
