Gathering In Spirit & Grace

Here I Am To Worship

Hughes

Light of the World
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes
Let me see
Beauty that made
This heart adore You
Hope of a life
Spent with you

refrain:
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say
That You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether
Wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious
In heaven above
Humbly You came
To the earth You created
All for love’s sake
Became poor

(refrain)

And I’ll never know
How much it cost
To see my sin
Up on that cross
And I’ll never know
How much it cost
To see my sin
Up on that cross

(refrain)

Litany Trusting God’s Faithfulness In Each Breath

PSALM 146

Today we trust anew, and we presume only this, The One who saves us, graces us to take a fresh breath, to humbly come, to then be exalted, so here we are to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

People of God: Happy are those whose help is in the Lord our God. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to trust, to answer, to honor, the Lord’s invitation.

(silence)

Friends, presume only this; you are expected at the Lord’s table and banquet. Christ has prepared an exalted seat for you, so take a deep breath in the grace of these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Trust the Lord sets you free; be his living sanctuary!

Song of Grace Anew

Sanctuary

Flaishler, Moulden

Lord prepare me
To be a sanctuary
Pure and holy
Tried and true
With thanksgiving
I’ll be a living
Sanctuary
For you

Praise the Lord, O my soul! We will presume only this; Jesus invites us to take our place, to execute justice, to humbly feed the hungry, to feast on hope, to be exalted in grace.

Friends of Jesus, presume only this: The Lord lifts us up, watches over us, invites us, welcomes us, even when we feel like strangers. You are exalted in grace anew; be his living sanctuary!

Song of Grace Anew

Sanctuary

Flaishler, Moulden

Lord prepare me
To be a sanctuary
Pure and holy
Tried and true
With thanksgiving
I’ll be a living
Sanctuary
For you

Loving God, we thank you and praise you, even when we turn away from your invitation, you bless us to take a fresh breath in your grace. By your Spirit, increase our faith to presume only this: You invite us; You are expecting us; You have us humbly come to your table; You move us to welcome strangers; You alone have exalted us, here and now, and for all eternity. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Old Testament Lesson

PROVERBS 25:6–7

Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence or stand in the place of the great; for it is better to be told, “Come up here,” than to be put lower in the presence of the noble.

(New Revised Standard Version)

New Testament Lesson

HEBREWS 13:1–8

Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured. Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers. Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ... Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song Anew In Grace

We Come to the Hungry Feast

Makeever

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a word of peace
To hungry hearts unsatisfied
The love of God is not denied
We come we come
To the hungry feast

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a world released
From hungry folk of ev’ry kind
The poor in body poor in mind
We come we come
To the hungry feast

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry that the hunger cease
And knowing though we eat our fill
The hunger will stay with us still
We come we come
To the hungry feast

Gospel

LUKE 14:1, 7–14

On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely. ... When Jesus noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honor, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, ‘Give this person your place,’ and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Jesus said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

(New Revised Standard Version)

BASED ON PSALM 89

As we hear God’s Word, let us take a deep, fresh breath, and boldly speak of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.

There will be no Rainbow Time or Faith Quest this Sunday.
Faith Quest will resume for the season next week—please see the link below to register.

Take a Fresh Breath … Presume Only This!

PROVERBS 25:6-7; HEBREWS 13:1-8,15-16; LUKE 14:1,7-14

Anticipate.  We are taught early on in life, `try to anticipate.'  Look at a puzzle, a conversation, a story line, a game; try to anticipate what happens next.  Trying to anticipate what is next, is far different from presuming.  Assuming and presuming often gets us into trouble.  To presume means `to take for granted, to take upon one's self without receiving permission.'  In Luke today, Jesus has much to say about the dangers of assuming our place, about the dangers of presuming God's way of doing things.  As Jesus teaches and tells a parable about God's kingdom, we hear we are to anticipate, to assume and to presume God does things far differently from the world we live in.  As we proclaim and glorify all we have heard, take a deep, fresh breath, in God’s grace, do not assume our place before we are called to a higher seat, rather let us presume only this ... we are to honor others as we make God and neighbors first, for God in Christ has prepared our place of honor, the Lord alone exalts us!

1. Presume only this .... We live in a world, and we live in a Kingdom, which are at odds!

A. How do we balance anticipation and preparation, with assuming and presuming?

B. What must we guard ourselves against?  Hindsight is nice.  How do we improve our foresight?

2. Presume only this ... It can be quite easy to assume and to presume our place.  How do we build up others, and yet validate ourselves?
Proverbs 25:6; Luke 14:7-11

A. It is easy for us to presume how God really works.

B. We would be wrong.

C. Trust The Lord is building you up, validating you, exalting you!

3. Presume only this .... One of the dangers that comes with presumption of place and assumption of exaltation, is to assume or to presume, "all know the Savior," but this is rarely the case.
Hebrews 13:1-2,16; Luke 14:12-13

A. Presume only this ... God is pleased with you and your efforts!

B. Presume only this ... We are to invite, to talk to, to reach out to, family and friends, strangers, neighbors, those different, those who cannot repay.

C. Presume only this ... as we exalt others, as we sit with others, we are doing so to angels without knowing it!

4. Take a fresh breath in the grace of the safest presumption and assumption we can make: `God is all we need, and God alone has already prepared a place of honor and exaltation for one and all.'
Proverbs 25:7; Hebrews 13:5-8; Luke 14:7-14

A. In a world that presumes we need so much, let us presume all we need is the Lord of our life.

B. Let us presume our place of honor is prepared, our exaltation is complete, through the One who humbled himself, to grace us!

Song Anew In Grace

Grace Alone

Nelson & Brown

Ev’ry promise we can make
Ev’ry prayer and step of faith
Ev’ry diff’rence we will make
Is only by His grace
Ev’ry mountain we will climb
Ev’ry ray of hope we shine
Ev’ry blessing left behind
Is only by His grace

Grace alone
Which God supplies
Strength unknown
He will provide
Christ in us
Our Cornerstone
We will go forth
In grace alone
We will go forth
In grace alone

Sharing our Needs and Joy with God in Prayer

… as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
With each breath, breathe on us anew, your Spirit and your grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you take each breath, each deep, fresh breath, in the living grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
