As we begin a new season together, returning to our fall schedule, Faith Quest, and the Blessing of the Backpacks, we are reminded that every new beginning is rooted in God's abundant grace.

In this week's Gospel, Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him. Surely there must be a limit. Jesus responds by telling the parable of the unforgiving servant, revealing that God's forgiveness cannot be measured or earned. While we often keep score, counting successes, failures, and what others owe us, God's grace refuses to be confined by our calculations.

Perhaps God gently smiles and asks us, "Oh, you think so?" whenever we try to measure our worth or someone else's by keeping score. If our place in God's kingdom depended on our performance, we would fall short every time. Yet through Jesus Christ, we receive forgiveness that is abundant, undeserved, and freely given. In God's grace, every day becomes a new beginning.

As backpacks are blessed and a new ministry year begins, we celebrate that God sends each of us into the world carrying far more than books, schedules, or plans. We are sent with the promise that His grace goes with us, His mercy renews us, and His love is always more than enough for whatever lies ahead.
