“Seven Words: Simple, Powerful, Renewing Words in Grace Alone”

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Lemmel

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.
— John 9:6-7

When it is readily available, do you have a favorite household cleanser? Does one cleanser clean all? Tile? Vinyl? Countertops? Glass and mirrors? Bathroom? Shower? Sink? Appliances? Does what you use, work? Do you trust it will do what is needed to get it clean?

If you could not see, would you trust clearing your sight by using mud? The more important question, now this is critical: Would you trust the one putting the mud on your eyes and telling you to go wash?

Even when you feel alone and forsaken, what is the best cleanser for your heart, your spirit, your soul? What helps you turn your eyes upon Jesus, taking the dimness away, so you see the light of his glory and grace? Could it be, do you trust, the cross and God's grace have the final word? The more important question, and remember this is critical: Do you trust the One who went to the cross and endured the cross, when he says, "Go. Be washed. See. Believe."?

Let us pray: Lord, I do not always turn my eyes to you, I do not always trust you and your ways. I can feel forsaken and lost in the dimness. Give me a new measure of faith to trust you, when you speak, when you act, when you call, when you cleanse, when you save. May I forever boldly believe as I trust anew your simple power and grace alone. In your name, I turn my eyes to you; I am clean and I pray. Amen.
