In The Cross of Christ I Glory

Bowring

In the cross of Christ I glory
Tow'ring o'er the wrecks of time
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime

Some were saying, “It is he.” Others were saying, “No, but it is someone like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.”
— John 9:9

Our eyes can play tricks on us if we are not careful. We think we see one thing, but it turns out to be something else.

The above Bible verse is from this week's story of the blind man after he was given his sight. Some thought he was the man who had been blind, some thought he was someone who looked like the man.

Are you able to clearly see the Christ and his glory in our midst? Are you able to see the works of Christ and say with great conviction and faith and belief, "This is the work of The Christ and God's grace and no other"? Or do you say "This could be the work of another or mere coincidence"?

When we feel forsaken, our eyes and even our heart can try to play tricks on us. We may find ourselves blind to God at work in our midst. Seeing God's faithfulness, seeing God's work at work when all else feels broken and lost, alone and forsaken, is a gift of The Spirit. As our week continues, here are seven simple, powerful, renewing words, that make so much so clear, no tricks, only truth: "In the cross of Christ, I glory!"

Let us pray: Lord, at times, my eyes can easily mistake one thing for another. By your Spirit, clear my eyes and my heart, and I will praise you and worship you. You are at work in my midst. You alone have saved me, and in your cross alone I glory. Give me faith like the blind man, and I will boldly tell others I am who I am, claimed by you and changed and renewed by your power and grace alone. In your glory, I pray. Amen.
