What Child Is This

Dix

What child is this who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping
This this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste haste to bring him laud
The babe the son of Mary

The wolf shall live with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
— Isaiah 11:6

So much of what we do in our daily lives requires careful planning. Planning, however, is only effective once you have a vision. What is it you want to see happen? What does the perfect plan look like to you? Now that you have that idea, that vision, of what it is you are going for, now you can make effective use of the planning and preparation process; now you can see more clearly what it is you will need to do to execute your plan.

What vision do you have for Christmas this year? When you think about Christmas 2025, what would make it perfect for you? What is your vision for Christ's return? Have you made plans to get yourself ready for this vision of yours? How are those plans coming?

What do you think God's vision is for Christmas 2025, for salvation, for Christ's return, for you, for you today? Do you know and trust God has a clear plan, a perfect plan, and will execute that plan, to bring forth each and every one of his clear visions?

What do you think God’s vision includes? The wolf shall live with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid ... Those who are so different will be reconciled and brought together. How will God best execute this vision? And a little child shall lead them. Comfort. Joy. What child is this? The babe, the son of Mary! This is so clear!

Let us pray: Lord, sometimes I make plans without thinking about what it is I want to accomplish, or without thinking about a vision; without thinking about you, and what child this is, and all that truly makes you and others and our neighbors and my loved ones, first. Send me your light in my darkness. Give me a clear vision. Give me a course of preparation to passionately live out that vision, not only at Christmas, but as I live each day, waiting for your promised return. I praise you for your perfect plan put into action, to execute your vision of peace and unity and reconciliation. I thank you for the little child that leads me in comfort and joy. Amen.
