Litany Trusting God’s Grace Blesses Us to Be a Blessing
BASED ON PSALM 66
Today we celebrate, and boldly trust anew in The Persistent One, who graces us and blesses us to be a blessing, so we come, for now is the time to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen. I will bless you, my God and King, I will bless your name forever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised. Every generation shall declare your mighty acts.
Friends, our God is majestic; his works are filled with wonder and splendor. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and to share the times we have failed to persistently, and to faithfully, call on, and to trust in, the persistent and faithful grace of our God.
(silence for reflection)
Friends of our loving Lord: Today we call on the persistent grace of our Savior, and we trust we are blessed to be a blessing in these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. May we persistently trust anew in the Blessed and Persistent One, for this is truly our Father’s world!
Song of Grace Anew
This Is My Father’s World
Babcock & Sheppard
vs. 1
This is my Father’s world
And to my list’ning ears
All nature sings
And round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Father’s world
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees
Of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought
The Lord is persistent, and upholds all who are falling, and he raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, O Lord. By your persistent presence and grace, open our hearts and spirits once again; hear our praises and our prayers!
Friends in faith: The Lord is our song; the Lord is persistent and faithful, hearing our every cry, saving each one of us. May we trust anew The One who is persistently gracing us! Thanks be to God, this is truly forever our Father’s world!
Song of Grace Anew
This Is My Father’s World
Babcock & Sheppard
vs. 2
This is my Father’s world
The birds their carols raise
The morning light
The lily white
Declare their maker’s praise
This is my Father’s world
He shines in all that’s fair
In the rustling grass
I hear him pass
He speaks to me ev’rywhere
Loving God, this is truly our Father’s world, and you provide all we need, and so, by your Spirit, we persistently trust anew in you. As you bless us to be blessing, we trust you and your persistent faithfulness. Increase our faith; help us believe anew, then stir us up, to be persistent in new ways as you daily move us and guide us, to grow in our mission, passion, purpose, generosity, service, justice, ministry, discipleship, and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Faith Quest Meets Today!

Old Testament Lesson
GENESIS 32:22–31
The same night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, “Let me go, for the day is breaking.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go, unless you bless me.” So he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” Then the man said, “You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed.” Then Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” But he said, “Why is it that you ask my name?” And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved.” The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip. New Testament Lesson
2 TIMOTHY 3:14–4:5
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. ... In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths. As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.
(New Revised Standard Version)

Gospel
LUKE 18:1–8
Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my opponent.’ For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, ‘Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.’” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
(New Revised Standard Version)
Stating Our Faith in God
BASED ON REVELATION 21:5–7
As God’s children, we trust God the good steward, in God’s grace, first loves us, and blesses us to be a blessing. In thanks to God’s faithfulness, countless blessings, and all God entrusts into our care, by The Holy Spirit, we boldly state our faith.
God who sits upon the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new. Write these words for they are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain the water of life without payment. They who conquer shall have their heritage, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” Amen.
Blessed To Be a Blessing … Persistent Persistence!
HABAKKUK 1:1-4,2:1-4; 2 TIMOTHY 1:1-14; LUKE 17:5-10
The gift of faith is an awesome blessing. And yet, questions remain - Why did Jesus die for me, since I so often have those days when I look in every direction but his? How is it, though I try so hard to rely on my faith to get me through, there is still so much tragedy and evil in this world? I believe in an after life, but what good does that do me in the here and now? In a world and life full of choices, why would I trust the gift of faith, and choose Jesus above all else? In all creation, why would Jesus grace me? These are good and difficult questions, yet, faith should not surprise us. When we ask in the spirit of the psalmist or like our prophet Habakkuk, we see The Holy Spirit bless questions asked in God’s name. Even in our searching, we can ask like the apostles for The Lord to `increase our faith,' and then trust we will not be surprised, for we are blessed to be blessing with pure, powerful, and permanent faith.
1. Do not be surprised when you cry for the Lord to increase your faith, you are blessed to be a blessing with a faith that is pure. Faith by definition is pure, 100% genuine.
2 Timothy 1:8-10; Luke 17:6
A. A seed is alive, takes root, and grows.
B. The amount of faith we have is not important. Easy to doubt the foundation of all we believe, when we see others with what we think is more faith.
C. Faith by nature is pure, genuine, confident, trustworthy, total dependence. If we had faith like this, we too could speak to the trees and have them obey. God has faith like this in us.
D. More important: We could and would speak to God. Let us talk to him, cry out to him, and let us hear him talk back to us.
2. Don't be surprised to see the power of faith in your life. Faith blesses us to be a blessing to be graced with the power of The Almighty.
Habakkuk 1 & 2; 2 Timothy 1:5-6, 14; Luke 17:1-4, 7-10
A. Faith is powerful enough to forgive, even when no one else will. Sin is not ok or accepted, but it is forgiven through confession, repentance, and faith.
B. Faith is powerful enough to transform, what was, into what is, and all that was created to be and to spring forth.
C. Faith is powerful enough to give hope. God wants us to come to him in the midst of our struggles. To trust God alone!
D. Faith is powerful enough to give us strength. Like Paul, we can be strengthened by the faith of others, family and friends. Like Timothy, we can be touched by family; we can touch and minister to another. Their faith can rekindle the gift that is already in us, a spirit of power, love and self-discipline.
E. Faith is powerful enough to help do as we are called. Don't be surprised when faith and servanthood and witness are passed along to you, as they were passed along to Timothy from Paul.
3. Don't be surprised to see this gift of faith is permanent! What it is, pure; what it gives, power; and who gives it, God - are all permanent! Celebrate and trust, you are purely, powerfully, permanently blessed to be a blessing!
A. Jesus stood ready throughout his ministry. Jesus is forever in your midst filling you, sending you, gracing you, blessing you to be a blessing! Be ready to be blessed each and every day!
B. Jesus is the one who is faithfully blessing your life and our ministry; granting - direction, forgiveness, hope, strength, call, obedience; transforming and increasing your faith! Do not be surprised! Jesus is faithful, in the midst of our questions, struggles and stumblings. Do not let his faithfulness and his grace ever surprise you!

And healing comes from Your hands
Suffering children
Are safe in Your arms
There is none like You
(refrain with repeat)
...as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
Bless us to be a blessing, in your power and hope and grace.
All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.
For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.
We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you trust you are blessed to be a blessing in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
