Opening Song In Grace & Spirit
Hear Our Praises
Morgan
vs. 1
May our homes be filled with dancing
May our streets be filled with joy
May injustice bow to Jesus
As the people turn to pray
refrain:
From the mountains
To the valleys
Hear our praises
Rise to You
From the heavens
To the nations
Hear our singing
Fill the air
vs. 2
May Your light shine in the darkness
As we walk before the cross
May Your glory fill the whole earth
As the water o’er seas
(refrain)
Litany Trusting God’s Faithfulness In Each Breath
PSALM 138
Today we are invited, from the mountains to the valleys, from the heavens to the nations, to fill the air with all our praises, to take a deep breath in The One who stores up for us, grace upon grace, so we worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen. I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart. To you alone I bow down. You provide and store up all I need. I give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and faithfulness.
People of God: Jesus gives us the miracle of life. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have stored up selfish desires and failed to rely on all The Lord provides.
(silence for reflection)
Friends in Christ, take a breath in the grace stored up in these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. The Lord’s name is lifted high, valued more than anything else, blessing us with more than we will ever need! Trust anew The Spirit fills us with amazing grace!
Song of Absolute Grace
Amazing Grace
Newton
vs. 1
Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch
Like me
I once was lost
But now am found
Was blind
But now I see
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, I trust The Lord provides for me and preserves me. The Lord hears me, stretches out his hand to strengthen me, to give me more than I need; to save me.
People of faith: Take a deep breath in grace; we are valued by The One who creates, equips, forgives and saves. Trust anew, God stores up only the very best! God’s steadfast love overflows, endures forever, and is truly more, than when we first begun!
Song of Absolute Grace
Amazing Grace
Newton
vs. 5
When we’ve been there
Ten thousand years
Bright shining as
The sun
We’ve no less days
To sing God’s praise
Than when
We first begun
Loving God, we trust you are the source of amazing grace, every daily miracle, more than we could ever store up on our own. Through your Holy Spirit: once again, speak to us, fill us to only make room for you, and to only store up your promises of hope and life. As we take each breath in your grace, let us receive all your blessings; and then fill us with still more as we grow in faith. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Old Testament Lesson
Ecclesiastes 1:2, 12-14; 2:18-23
Vanity of vanities, says the Teacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.
I, the Teacher, when king over Israel in Jerusalem, applied my mind to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven; it is an unhappy business that God has given to human beings to be busy with. I saw all the deeds that are done under the sun; and see, all is vanity and a chasing after wind.
I hated all my toil in which I had toiled under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to those who come after me – and who knows whether they will be wise or foolish? Yet they will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity. So I turned and gave my heart up to despair concerning all the toil of my labors under the sun, because sometimes one who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave all to be enjoyed by another who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil. What do mortals get from all the toil and strain with which they toil under the sun? For all their days are full of pain, and their work is a vexation; even at night their minds do not rest. This also is vanity.
(New Revised Standard Version)
Song Filled With Grace
Come, Thou Fount
Robinson & Wyeth
Come thou Fount of ev’ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
While the hope of endless glory
Fills my heart with joy and love
Teach me ever to adore thee
May I still thy goodness prove
Oh to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let that grace now like a fetter
Bind my wand’ring heart to thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart oh take and seal it
Seal it for thy courts above
Gospel
LUKE 12:13–21
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”
(New Revised Standard Version)
BASED ON PSALM 89
As we hear God’s Word, let us take a deep, fresh breath, and boldly speak of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.
I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.
Children are invited to join volunteers for Rainbow Time during today’s Sermon! Join us for a time of storytelling, coloring, and time with friends! Children will return to their families after the Sermon.
Take a Breath … Time to Store Up!
ECCLESIASTES 1:2,12-14, 2:18-23; COLOSSIANS 3:1-11; LUKE 12:13-21
Most of us have extra things stored up. It is good to be prepared, to have a few back up items. It is best not to have so many non essentials, there is not room for what matters most. As we listen to Jesus and follow him, at times we may feel uncomfortable. That's ok; even good. Today Jesus tells us we may feel uneasy when it comes to our desire for wealth and possessions. Wealth and possessions are not the tension; our desire is. When we find ourselves looking first to our own desires rather than The Spirit and The Christ, we are putting our trust in a god who cannot save us. Let us take a deep breath in the grace and power of this truth: Jesus stores up 100% of his grace to give all he has, for all eternity, to save us!
1. What are you storing up in your life? How do these things impact your spiritual journey, your spirit, you at the core?
Ecclesiastes 2:22; Luke 12:15,18
A. Be aware of the tension the following things have on your life.
i. power
ii. status
iii. possessions
iv. control
v. people
vi. money
(circle the ones that pull at you the most)
(draw a box around those you think pull at a church like Lord of Life)
B. Let us remember: These things cannot save our lives; these things cannot save us from today and tomorrow.
2. What are you storing up? What kinds of things do you wish you had more of? How do these things impact your spiritual journey, your spirit, you?
A. Are we better at storing up stuff, than we are at asking God to help us gather up spirit?
Colossians 3:1-3
B. Are we better at storing up time and tasks, than we are at telling God we want more and more room for truth and thanksgiving?
Ecclesiastes 1:12-14, 2:18-23
C. Are we storing up things, objects that overtake us, that we become obsessed with, or are we asking God to help us clear things out to make room for order and the obvious?
Luke 12:13-15
D. Are we storing up things because reality has a hold on us, or are we willing to ask God to help us clean our hearts and to trust anew real risk and release of the soul?
Colossians 3:4-10
E. Are we storing up so many little and big extras, there is too little room to trust God provides every essential for all eternity?
Luke 12:18-21
3. What do you have room for in your life? What do you want to make room for? The time is now to take a deep breath, to store up the best!
Luke 12:19-21
It has been said, “If even 1% of what we Christians believe to be true, is true, we should be 100% more faithful, joyful, spirited, enthusiastic, giving, humbled, trusting, free and hopeful.”
4. Ecclesiastes 1:13; Colossians 3:1; Luke 12:13 - Trust and celebrate and surrender, 100% more today than yesterday, that God sent Jesus The Christ, not to condemn you in the midst of your daily tensions, but to free you from them. Take a deep breath in the grace, hope and salvation of this truth: God sent Jesus to store up for us and in us all we will ever need: spirit, truth, the obvious, risk, release, and all the essentials for all eternity!

Sharing our Needs and Joy with God in Prayer
… as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
With each breath, breathe on us anew, your Spirit and your grace.
All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.
For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.
We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
