“Today, You Are With Me in Paradise”
This Is The Day
Arne
This is the day
(This is the day)
That the Lord has made
That the Lord has made
I will rejoice
(I will rejoice)
And be glad in it
(And be glad in it)
This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day
(This is the day)
That the Lord has made
“Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children, even infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her canopy.”
Do you have a favorite pastime? You know, that thing you like to do to get away from it all. What is it for you? You have probably seen shirts that proudly announce your hobby or interest or passion. "Any day fishin' beats a day at work." "A bad day of golf still beats a good day at work." You know what I am talking about.
Joel reminds us, Lent reminds us, in Jesus' death and resurrection we are reminded; we have proclaimed to us again - every day is a good day to worship, to make first our God who blesses us, who sustains us. May all who really know us, know our favorite way not to simply pass the time, but to share our time, to boldly announce, "This is the day, that the Lord has made, we will rejoice!"
As we enter the second full week of Lent, we look to the second of Jesus' Seven Last Words on the cross, "Today, you are with me in paradise." By God's grace, The Holy Spirit reveals to us when we worship, as we make God first, this day, each and every day in the midst of all we do, that truly every day is a day the Lord has made, that each day is a simple, powerful, renewing glimpse of the Paradise given here and now, and the Paradise one day fully made known!
Let us pray: Today Lord I tell you my interest and my day can easily take me away from you. I long to have time to do the things I long to do. By your Spirit, I long to have more time to worship you. I thank you and praise you and worship you; you always have time for me. In the simple renewing power of your grace, you alone provide and reveal paradise for me. Open my eyes to paradise in you this day, today and every day. In your name I pray and rejoice. Amen.
