They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far
And to the earth
It gave great light
And so it continued both day and night

“... the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light ...”
Okay, so I usually have a little trouble putting up my lights from year to year. I am not always sure what to do at a few spots, and I need to wait for the right conditions to reach parts of my house that a person of my stature cannot quite get to without a ladder.
How are you doing with spreading the Light this Advent? It is easy for us to have trouble, year to year, now and again, in spreading the Light and putting forth Light in our lives. It is easy for us to be drawn to the simpleness and the desire of the darkness. It would be easy to look at the hard to reach places in our hearts, in the world, and say, "Why bother?"
And then, when you need it most, when you are least confident, when you need hope the most, Light breaks in, maybe through the display on the house down the street, but more likely through God's grace shining brightly through a friend, or family member, maybe even in the form of a stranger.
May each of us look up, see a star, see the great Light, continuing both day and night. As we put on the armor of light, let us see tidings of comfort and joy brightly shining!
Let us pray: God of Light, today I tell you even at this time of year, my light and my faith can be dim. I make excuses, or I wait for the right conditions, when it comes to trusting your Light. Help me put on the armor of your Light. As you did so, that first noel, shine your comfort and joy on me, both day and night. In your name and Light I pray. Amen.
