Gathering In Spirit & Grace

Come, Now is the Time to Worship

Doerksen

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God
Come

One day ev’ry tongue will confess You are God
One day ev’ry knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose You now

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God
Come

Litany Trusting God’'s Signs of Love

BASED ON PSALM 145

Today, we trust anew, every sign of love is yours, God, entrusted into our care, so we come, for now is the time to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth. Let us sing to the Lord and bless his name. Let us tell of his salvation and of his marvelous works, and let us share every sign of God’s love and grace.

People of God: All other gods of the people are idols; The Lord alone made the heavens. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to love first The One who has his name on everything.

(silence for reflection)

Friends in Christ: Trust anew the One who blesses us with signs of love in the grace of these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Great is the Lord! Trust anew the One who has his name on you, and every sign of love, for indeed, this is our Father’s world!

Song of Grace Anew

This is My Father’s World

Babcock & Sheppard

vs. 1
This is my Father’s world
And to my list’ning ears
All nature sings and round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Father’s world
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought

Let the heavens be glad. Let all the earth rejoice. Let us freely receive every sign of the Lord’s goodness and love, and be filled with The Lord’s presence. The Lord’s name is on us all; we rejoice and sing!

The Lord is King! He alone created and established the world, it shall never be moved. God’s name is on one and all! The Spirit is in every blessing; every sign of love entrusted into our care, for indeed, this is our Father’s world!

Song of Grace Anew

This is My Father’s World

Babcock & Sheppard

vs. 2
This is my Father’s world
The birds their carols raise
The morning light the lily white
Declare their maker’s praise
This is my Father’s world
He shines in all that’s fair
In the rustling grass I hear him pass
He speaks to me ev’rywhere

Almighty and loving God, we thank you and praise you, for all good gifts around us, are sent from heaven above. By your Holy Spirit and grace, we love the Lord with all our heart, and we trust anew, we are entrusted with every sign of love you place into our care. Give us faith to see anew, this our Father’s world, to see anew you are The One whose name is on it all, The One whose name is on us all, The One who loves us one and all. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Old Testament Lesson

Isaiah 45:1–7

Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and strip kings of their robes, to open doors before him – and the gates shall not be closed: I will go before you and level the mountains, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron, I will give you treasures of darkness and riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who call you by your name. For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I surname you, though you do not know me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides me there is no god. I arm you, though you do not know me, so that they may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is no one besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness, I make weal and create woe; I the Lord do all these things.

(New Revised Standard Version)

New Testament Lesson

1 Thessalonians 1:1–10

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it. For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath that is coming.

Song Anew In Hope & Grace

Precious Lord, Take My Hand

Dorsey

vs. 1
Precious Lord take my hand
Lead me on let me stand
I am tired I am weak
I am worn
Through the storm through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord
Lead me home

vs. 2
When my way grows drear
Precious Lord linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand precious Lord
Lead me home

vs. 3
When the darkness appears
And the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet hold my hand
Take my hand precious Lord
Lead me home

Take my hand precious Lord
Lead me home

Gospel

MATTHEW 22:15–22

Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said. So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?” But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. Then he said to them, “Whose head is this, and whose title?” They answered, “The emperor’s.” Then Jesus said to them, “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Statement of Faith

BASED ON REVELATION 21:5–7

As God’s children, we trust God the good steward, in God’s grace, loves us first, and blesses us with every sign of love. In thanks to God’s faithfulness, countless blessings, and all God entrusts into our care, by The Holy Spirit, we boldly state our faith.

God who sits upon the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new. Write these words for they are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain the water of life without payment. They who conquer shall have their heritage, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” Amen.

Signs of Love … All Is God’s

ISAIAH 45:1-7; 1 THESSALONIANS 1:1-10; MATTHEW 22:15-22

“It’s mine, mine, mine!”  Our world, our lives, often tell us to put our name on our possessions.  We can get caught up measuring what people have.  Once we have something, we usually try to protect it.  Sometimes there is a fine line between protecting and sharing, or keeping it all for ourselves.  Names and identifying marks tell us what belongs to who.  The Pharisees ask, `Is it right to pay taxes?'  Jesus replies, `Give to those what belongs to them.'  What Jesus teaches here is radically different from anyone else - `Everything comes from heaven.  It is created there and originates there!  Everything is God’s, God’s, God’s!'  When we want everything to be ours, ours, ours; we fall short.  As the Holy Spirit fills us to trust every sign of love is entrusted to us, further trust the Holy Spirit is revealing to us what belongs to God: Everything!  Celebrate and trust all God is doing with every sign of love, for God’s identifying mark is on it all, God's name and grace are on us all!

1. The world, our egos, our desires, our humanness, all encourage us, tempt us, and invite us to claim as much as possible for ourselves.

A. The Pharisees and the Herodians wanted to get, get, get; they wanted to win, win, win.
Matthew 22:15-17,22

B. Jesus forces the Pharisees and the Herodians to hear the clear message.
Matthew 22:21

i. This text is about far more than just money.

ii. `What belongs to this world and what belongs to God.'

C. Isaiah 45:3,7; Matthew 22:21  It is radical for us to move from:

i. the material, to the spiritual; to trust all entrusted to us, and what is central and life-giving to our core.

ii. private to public; secular to sacred; self to neighbor; one to all; me to Kingdom; earth to heaven; stuff to signs of love.

2. Do we see God’s name and claim on everything?  Anything?  And yet, we are blessed to trust every sign of love God has entrusted to us!

A. God has his name on everything – everything is God’s!
Isaiah 45:4; Matthew 22:21-22

i. How do we not render to God what is rightfully God’s – namely our lives, our devotion, and our discipleship?

ii. Wanting it all, wanting our name on most of it, is only human.  That is why the beyond-human act of the cross was needed, to make us, keep us, save us, as God’s!

iii. God made sure what was God's would always be God's.

B. God has made us, one and all, God's, God's, God's!
Isaiah 45:1-4

C. Look for God’s identifying mark!  As individuals and as a congregation, as the people of God, as Lord of Life, we are God’s:

i. 1 Thessalonians 1:4 - signs of love, His chosen ones!

ii. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 - given Word and Power!

iii. 1 Thessalonians 1:6 - imitators, in spite of persecution!

iv. 1 Thessalonians 1:7 - examples!

v. 1 Thessalonians 1:8 - in faith!

vi. 1 Thessalonians 1:9 - messengers to welcome others!

vii. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 - witnesses waiting for Christ's return.

D. God's love has freely entrusted much to us and to our care.  God is the owner, God gives it to us to take care of, since every sign of love, is God’s, God’s, God’s!!

3. What Jesus teaches here is radically different from anyone or anything else - `Everything comes from heaven.  It is created there, originates there!’  When we want it all to be ours; we fall short.  His name is on us!  Look for God's identifying mark, on what is most important to our God!  Trust we are entrusted with every sign of love, by The One whose name is on us, one and all: God’s, God’s, God’s!
Isaiah 45:3-5; Matthew 22:21-22

Song of Hope & Grace Anew

There Is None Like You

LeBlanc

refrain:
There is none like You
No one else
Can touch my heart like You do
I could search for all eternity long
And find
There is none like You

(repeat)

vs. 1
Your mercy flows like a river wide
And healing comes from Your hands
Suffering children are safe in Your arms
There is none like You

(refrain with repeat)

...as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
We trust anew, in your signs of love and grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Song During Holy Communion

Shout to The Lord

Zchech

My Jesus
My Savior
Lord there is none like You
All of my days
I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My Comfort
My Shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let ev’ry breath
All that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord
All the earth let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound
Of Your name
I sing for joy
At the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You
Forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You

Shout to the Lord
All the earth let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound
Of Your name
I sing for joy
At the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You
Forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have in
Nothing compares
To the promise I have in
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You

The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace, this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you trust anew, every sign of God’s love, in the grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
