Gathering in Light & Grace

Here I Am to Worship

Hughes

Light of the World
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes
Let me see
Beauty that made
This heart adore You
Hope of a life
Spent with you

refrain:
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that
You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether
Wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven
Above
Humbly You came
To the earth You created
All for love’s sake
Became poor

(refrain)

And I’ll never know
How much it cost
To see my sin
Up on that cross
And I’ll never know
How much it cost
To see my sin
Up on that cross

(refrain)

A New Epiphany is Only the Beginning in God’s Grace & Light

BASED ON PSALM 147

Friends, today, this is only the beginning; epiphanies of grace break forth, as we give thanks for every sign of hope and light, so, here we are to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. Praise the Lord! Sing praises; for he is gracious. The Light of the world opens our eyes, our hearts, to The One who is holy; to gather the outcast. The Spirit fills us, gives us hope.

People of God: The Lord determines the number of stars, he gives them all names. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to trust the Lord, and every sign of The Light of the world.

(silence for reflection)

Dear friends: God is the One who heals the brokenhearted. A new sign breaks forth!  Receive a new epiphany today; this is only the beginning: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. This morning and all your days, glorify anew in your life, every sign of God’s grace!

Song of Renewal

Be Glorified

Kilpatrick

vs. 1
In my life Lord
Be glorified
Be glorified
In my life Lord
Be glorified today

Let us sing to the Lord with thanksgiving. The One who sends the rain, the one who takes pleasure in us, blesses us with hope, to go carry the light and grace of his steadfast love.

As we look for God’s grace and light in our lives, we will see every sign, each epiphany, of Jesus coming to us. Glorify anew in your heart, every sign of God’s light in our midst!

Song of Renewal

Be Glorified

Kilpatrick

vs. 2
In my heart Lord
Be glorified
Be glorified
In my heart Lord
Be glorified today

Today we will seek out and trust again every sign of the Creator who invites us to share his light and grace. The Lord commands all the earth. His Word is swift and sure; in Christ we will stand, we will live, we will endure, we will shine forever.

Friends: The Lord is gracious. Our Savior comes our way, speaks to us, shines bright,  sends us forth. Jesus fulfills every sign of hope and salvation.  May The Spirit grace us, to glorify in God’s Church, for God’s people, every sign of light and grace!

Song of Renewal

Be Glorified

Kilpatrick

vs. 3
In Your Church Lord
Be glorified
Be glorified
In Your Church Lord
Be glorified today

Almighty and loving God, you sent your Son, The Light of the world, to break forth in our darkness with light, salvation, mercy, life and grace. By your Holy Spirit, give us a new epiphany, to see and to believe, your Light is only a sign, only the beginning to so much more; and then, let our lights truly shine before others that they may see our good works and give glory to our Father who is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Faith Quest Sunday School meets today!

The Old Testament

ISAIAH 58:1-12

Shout out, do not hold back! Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins. Yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments, they delight to draw near to God. “Why do we fast, but you do not see? Why humble ourselves, but you do not notice?” Look, you serve your own interest on your fast day, and oppress all your workers. Look, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to strike with a wicked fist. Such fasting as you do today will not make your voice heard on high. Is such the fast that I choose, a day to humble oneself? Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush, and to lie in sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and to hide yourself from your own kin? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.

(New Revised Standard Version)

The New Testament

1 CORINTHIANS 2:1-12

When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. My speech and my proclamation were not plausible words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.  Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. But we speak God’s wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him” – these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God’s except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God.

(refrain with repeat)

Gospel

MATTHEW 5:13–20

And Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

(New Revised Standard Version)

Stating Our Faith in God

BASED ON HEBREWS 11-12:2

Long ago witnesses wrote words to proclaim Jesus as the treasured bright new light, The True Epiphany, fulfilling the coming of the promised Messiah, that his power and grace were only the beginning for the Hebrew Christians considering returning to Judaism. Let us boldly share our faith using these same words.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible. ...Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. ...Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. Amen.

Song Anew in Light & Grace

We Fall Down/Holy, Holy, Holy

Tomlin

We fall down
We lay our crowns
At the feet of Jesus
The greatness of
Mercy and love
At the feet of Jesus
And we cry
Holy holy holy
And we cry
Holy holy holy
And we cry
Holy holy holy
Is the Lamb

(repeat)

vs. 1
Holy holy holy
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to thee
Holy holy holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity

We fall down
We lay our crowns
At the feet of Jesus
The greatness of
Mercy and love
At the feet of Jesus
And we cry
Holy holy holy
And we cry
Holy holy holy
And we cry
Holy holy holy
Is the Lamb

... as we pray to you, Jesus,
Give us a new epiphany, give us a new beginning, in your light and your grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Song During Holy Communion

Carry The Light

Paris

In this world of darkness
We are given light
Hope for all the dying
How will they know
How will they know
That Jesus loves them
And He died to save them

Carry the Light
Carry the Light
Go and tell the children
They are precious in His sight
Carry the Light
Carry the Light
Go and preach the gospel
‘Til there is no more night
In the name of Jesus Christ
Carry the Light

Count them by the millions
Blinded slaves to sin
Inside they are dying
How will they know
How will they know
That Jesus loves them
And His heart is breaking

Carry the Light
Carry the Light
Go and tell the children
They are precious in His sight
Carry the Light
Carry the Light
Go and preach the gospel
‘Til there is no more night
In the name of Jesus Christ
Carry the Light
The Light
Carry the Light

The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, the Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you are blessed with only the beginning in every epiphany of God’s saving grace in Jesus Christ! In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
