Litany Celebrating and Affirming God’s Saving Grace

BASED ON PSALM 25

Today we celebrate the Holy Spirit is so welcome here, gathering us in, affirming new beginnings in one and all, as we confirm our faith and God’s saving grace, so we worship in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. The Lord walks paths of steadfast love and faithfulness. He leads the humble in what is right. The Lord will not remember our sins. He remembers us according to his grace and mercy.

People of God: Jesus knows our transgressions; our sins are ever before him. Against Jesus alone have we sinned, yet, The Lord is mindful of his steadfast love. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to confirm all God is.

(silence for reflection)

Friends in Christ: The Word confirmed through God’s grace for daily living, for our affirmed and transformed lives is this: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Let us confirm we live anew each day and for all eternity in power and grace as we, go into the world; to affirm all God is. He is our God, and we are his people!

Song Confirming Our Calling

Go Ye, Go Ye, Into the World

Sleeth

Go ye go ye
Into the world
And make disciples
Of all the nations
Go ye go ye
Into the world
And I will be with you there

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; you have not let me be put to shame. As you affirm your call for me to go into the world, I go confirmed in your grace, for you go with me.

Brothers and sisters in faith: Even when we fail to confirm God’s power in our life; God turns to us in grace. As God's people, let us turn to the Lord, to be reconciled, to be made new, to go into the world!

Song Confirming Our Calling

Go Ye, Go Ye, Into the World

Sleeth

Go ye go ye
Into the world
And make disciples
Of all the nations
Go ye go ye
Into the world
And I will be with you there

Almighty God, confirm us again today as your children, as your disciples, of every age. Give us faith, teach us your path, help us each day to affirm the power of your saving grace in Jesus Christ!

Friends in Christ: The friendship of the Lord is great. Let us celebrate and affirm all God is, as we go into the world, for God has confirmed in us a living covenant that can never be broken!

Song Confirming Our Calling

Go Ye, Go Ye, Into the World

Sleeth

Go ye go ye
Into the world
And make disciples
Of all the nations
Go ye go ye
Into the world
And I will be with you there

Loving God, as we affirm you as the power in our life, increase our faith to see you bless us and confirm us first, each and every day. Let now be the time your saving grace is confirmed anew in us. By your Holy Spirit, we say ‘yes’ to your call and we boldly confirm, God is Who God is. Affirm a new beginning in each of us today, as we go where we are sent, as we care for what you give us, as we share your every blessing, as we make you, our God, and our neighbors first, confirming for one and all your presence, power and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Faith Quest is Back!
We’re excited to kick off a brand new year of Faith Quest, our Sunday School program at Lord of Life! Children ages 4 through 6th grade are invited to set out on an adventure of faith, discovering God’s love through Bible stories, crafts, music, and community projects.

Faith Quest takes place during the 9:30 am worship service, September through May. Each week, kids will be dismissed from worship to continue the journey together. New friends are always welcome, and enrollment is open all year long!

New Testament Lesson

1 TIMOTHY 6:6–19

Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment; for we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing out of it; but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains. But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep the commandment without spot or blame until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will bring about at the right time – he who is blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. It is he alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.  (NRSV)

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song Affirming Truth

He Who Began A Good Work in You

Mohr

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He’ll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

(repeat)

Gospel

LUKE 16:19–31

Jesus said, “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man’s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.’ He said, ‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house – for I have five brothers – that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment.’ Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’ He replied, ‘No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone rises from the dead.’”

(New Revised Standard Version)

BASED ON REVELATION 21:5–7

God’s Son who was born in a manger, who went forward in obedience to make us all one through his death and resurrection; he will come again. While we wait for Jesus’ return, let us speak boldly of all we confirm and affirm and believe.

God who sits upon the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new. Write these words for they are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain the water of life without payment. They who conquer shall have their heritage, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” Amen.

Confirmed Anew, Each and Every Day!

AMOS 6:1A,4-7; 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-19; LUKE 16:19-31

Opportunities come our way every day.  What do you do about them?  How do you choose to respond?  Which ones do you act on?  Which ones do you let pass?  What determines what you do?  In our spiritual walk, we have opportunities each day as well.  What convinces us of God’s presence and promise and power?  What calls us to step forward to make a difference?  To not walk on by?  What clearly points us to God’s path?  What causes our ears and our hearts and souls to listen?  What compels us to confirm and to affirm our faith?  At the heart of Jesus’ words in Luke today, we hear again the call not to wait.  As followers, as believers, now is the time, we are to make the most of every day.  We must not wait until it is too late to trust God, to be convinced, to make God and our neighbors first.  As believers let us trust by the grace of God, every day is a new beginning in the grace of Jesus Christ; God does not wait to make the most of each day, to confirm us, to save us, each and every day!

1. Confirm each and every day God’s way in your life.
1 Timothy 6:6; Luke 16:19-21

2. Confirm each and every day the direction God gives.
Luke 16:29

3. Confirm each and every day God’s call in your life.
1 Timothy 6:18

4. Confirm each and every day God’s opportunities, God’s gifts and blessings and grace for you.
Luke 16:22-26

5. Confirm, believe, trust, affirm, witness each and every day God has saved you!
1 Timothy 6:12; Luke 16:27-29

6. God in grace does not wait to give you a new beginning in grace!  God, right now, confirms God’s way before you, giving you direction, helping you answer the call, giving you new opportunities, confirming you and your faith and your salvation, affirming his covenant and promises to you, each and every day for all eternity!
Luke 16:31

A Few Affirming And Confirming Thoughts From Those
God Confirms Each & Every Day - The Confirmation Class Of 2025
Lord Of Life Lutheran Church - Lakeville, Minnesota

Charlie

Faith to me means to believe and trust in something unconditionally. …  Being a follower of Christ means to me that no matter what I will always have someone who loves and cares about me and is on my side. Being a follower of Christ means that I have such a strong belief that nothing can change how I feel about God. Being a follower of Christ means that when I'm in my darkest moments I will always have God who can give me strength to push through difficult times. … Jesus’s love gives me strength and confidence knowing that I will always be loved for who I am and when I'm going through a hard time how his love gives me strength to push through it. … Because Jesus loves me I know I am never alone and his love gives me purpose to be who I am. Jesus saves me by taking the weight of my mistakes and failures off my shoulders. … Jesus’s salvation gives me a new identity in Christ.  … His salvation shows me to put my faith over my fear. … Being a child of God is the greatest gift in the world ….

Devan

If I were not Christian a big part of my life would be missing. My first reason is I find God in every part of my life, when I am at school worrying about how much work I have, in sports when I feel like I’m underperforming and when I’m with friends I feel his presence. … If I did not have Christianity I would always be stressed out during school. I hang out with my friends a lot but some of them aren’t as connected to God like I am. … Even when I’m with those friends I’m able to act like myself and stay respectful. …  At the moment swearing in sports feels normal but when I think about it, it is just uncomfortable to be around. … Before each game I pray and think and listen to music without swear words. … God helped me learn that you don’t need to swear when your mad or frustrated. … My last reason why I’m a Christian is that’s what I want to be known as. I want to be able to show people that I am a true Christian that doesn’t just post about being a Christian. I want to know all the details of being a Christian not just the basics. … That is why I am a Christian and why I need Jesus in my life.

Kallie

I am a Christian because I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior and trust in the hope and love that He gives me. My faith guides the way I live my life and reminds me that I am never alone. I am a Christian because God has a plan for me and walks with me through good times and hard times. … I feel closest to God when I pray, when I sing at school Mass, and when I attend church. These moments remind me why I follow Him. Being a Christian means trying to love others the way Jesus loves me. It means forgiveness, second chances, and knowing I can always turn back to God no matter what. It means hope for the future, knowing that God promises eternal life. Joshua 1:9 … stands out to me because it also is my school’s theme, which is “Go with the Courage and Confidence in God.” This reminds me to continue to push forward on things I believe in, even if it means I am scared, nervous, or anxious to do it. I am a Christian because I believe that God’s love is real and everlasting. My faith gives me strength, hope, and purpose. … I am proud to say I am a Christian.

Garrett

What Christ means in my life is a way to guide me through all of life’s challenges … Christ makes a difference in my life because he makes it simply better when things are going bad. I turn to him and he comforts me and makes it all better. … Even though Christ knows that I’m not perfect he will make me the best person that I can possibly be.  … He brings me joy whenever I am at my lows and congratulates me whenever I’m at my highs. … Even in my sports, every time I do something bad he encourages me to flush it, then move on to the next play … with a different mindset. … I am blessed to have Christ by my side because he makes miracles happen. … He makes stuff happen to me that I never thought I could do in my life.  … What Christ means to me is inspiring. He inspires me to go out of my comfort zone and try new things. Even if I feel nervous to do it. Being Christian means I get to be in community with millions of people following Christ and what he has to offer in our life. Being Christian to me means having a personal relationship with Christ to teach me the ways of life and guide me through life the way it is meant to be lived. … I’m thankful to have Christ in my life.

Ellie

I am a Christian because the strength of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit has been able to help me through dark times where I may be struggling. …  Because of my religious beliefs, I am able to turn to God and pray to him, and knowing that he is listening to me pray, he gives me the strength to pick myself up during dark times and power through to overcome them, which is something I always try to do. Christianity also aligns with my belief of spreading love to everyone … I believe that Jesus is accepting to all, even those who follow different religions or beliefs, and that they are worthy of love, respect, and acceptance, no matter what religion they may follow. … God never gives up on those he loves dearly, because his love is unchanging. … Sometimes, we act irrationally, angry, destructive, or hurtful towards others, even our friends and family, or to ourselves, and because of God and Jesus’ infinite and unchanging love, they forgive us. … I believe that my religion encourages me to spread hope and positivity to others, … the Holy Spirit encourages me to help them as much as I can. … I’m a Christian because I know that God loves me and the loved ones I surround myself with, … he helps me find strength …

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
