This is the Day

Garrett

This is the day
(This is the day)
That the Lord has made
(That the Lord has made)
I will rejoice
(I will rejoice)
And be glad in it
(And be glad in it)
This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day
(This is the day)
That the Lord has made

Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children, even infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her canopy.
— Joel 2:15-16

Do you know what you are going to do today? Do you know what God is going to do today? Do you know what God is going to do to you, with you, for you, today?

Today is God's day! Lent is a journey that includes and invites us to confess and admit we too often try to make each day our day, about what we need to do, about our purpose. The grace of Lent, the grace of the cross, the grace alone in Jesus Christ, is this is the day, and our very lives, are what the Lord has made. God is The One in grace alone blowing the trumpet, gathering us, sanctifying us, saving us!

This is the day the Lord has made. Today is far too important to God's eternal purpose to allow us to get in the way. Let us rejoice and be glad!

Let us pray: Merciful God, renew my trust and calling in your grace alone. I may not know what you are going to do to me, with me, and for me today. This is your day, the day you have made, just like you made me. Though the purpose for today may be a bit of a mystery, I trust you and your purpose, and I will forever rejoice. In your grace alone, I pray. Amen.
