Song Celebrating Living Joy

Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

Wesley, Latin Carol

vs. 1
Jesus Christ is ris’n today
Alleluia
Our triumphant holy day
Alleluia
Who did once upon the cross
Alleluia
Suffer to redeem our loss
Alleluia

vs. 2
Hymns of praise then let us sing
Alleluia
Unto Christ our Heav’nly King
Alleluia
Who endured the cross and grave
Alleluia
Sinners to redeem and save
Alleluia

vs. 3
But the pains which he endured
Alleluia
Our salvation have procured
Alleluia
Now above the sky he’s King
Alleluia
Where the angels ever sing
Alleluia

Easter Litany

based on Psalm 118

Today we celebrate new life breaks forth; God’s grace and power are here and alive; we are alive and live anew; so we worship The Risen Christ, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever.
Let everyone say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”

Song of True Joy

Good Christian Friends, Rejoice and Sing!

Neale

vs. 1
Good Christian friends
Rejoice and sing
Now is the triumph
Of our King
To all the world
Glad news we bring
Alleluia
Alleluia
Alleluia

Friends, on this most holy morning, let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to trust in God’s living grace alone in The Risen Christ.

(silence for reflection)

Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.

With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can anyone do to me?

Song of True Joy

Good Christian Friends, Rejoice and Sing!

Neale

vs. 2
The Lord of life
Is ris’n this day
Bring flow’rs of song
To strew his way
Let all the world
Rejoice and say
Alleluia
Alleluia
Alleluia

I shall not die, but I shall live, and remember the deeds of the Lord forever. The Lord is just in judging me, but he will not give me over to death. New life springs forth, in the grace of The Risen Christ: Jesus is alive, Jesus saves, Jesus forgives you all your sins.

Open to me the gates of righteousness and new life. Give me an Easter heart, that I may arise, enter your gates, give thanks to you, O Lord, and sing songs of victory, with hearts uplifted high.

Song of True Joy

Good Christian Friends, Rejoice and Sing!

Neale

vs. 3
Praise we in songs
Of victory
That love that life
Which cannot die
And sing with hearts
Uplifted high
Alleluia
Alleluia
Alleluia

The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice, be glad in it, and give God all the glory!

Song of Life & Glory

Thine Is The Glory

Handel/Budry

vs. 1
Thine is the glory
Risen conqu’ring Son
Endless is the vict’ry
Thou o’er death hast won
Angels in bright raiment
Rolled the stone away
Kept the folded grave clothes
Where thy body lay

(refrain)

refrain:
Thine is the glory
Risen conqu’ring Son
Endless is the vict’ry
Thou o’er death hast won

Loving God, you gave your Son to suffer death on the cross and to be raised again to new life, for the forgiveness of our sins, to give us eternal life, to be here, right here with us, to give us hope and a new beginning in grace. By your Holy Spirit, give us faith in The Risen Christ to see and to believe you are alive and living in our midst. Reassure us, because you live, we live also, trusting all is possible in you alone, the crucified and risen Christ. Send us out as your faithful witnesses to tell others: we are not afraid; we know who calls our name; we have seen the Lord; we are alive, anew, awakened, in God’s living grace! With Easter hearts, in The Risen Christ, we pray. Amen.

New Testament Lesson

Acts 10:34-43

Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ – he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song of Life Anew

Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds

Strodach

Now all the vault
Of heav’n resounds
In praise of love
That still abounds
Christ has triumphed
He is living
Sing choirs of angels
Loud and clear
Repeat their song
Of glory here
Christ has triumphed
Christ has triumphed
Alleluia
Alleluia
Alleluia

The Easter Gospel

John 20:1–18

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went in the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”; and she told them that he had said these things to her.

(New Revised Standard Version)

based on Romans 8:31-39

As we hear The Easter Gospel, and believe anew the living presence of The Risen Christ, let us today, with Easter hearts, boldly state our faith, trusting our God’s faithfulness will never fail us.

“What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Amen.

Faith Quest does not meet today.

We look forward to offering Faith Quest next week, April 16th!

Alive & Anew in Living Grace

ACTS 10:34-43; JOHN 20:1-18

Have you ever hoped tomorrow things will get better?  Has someone ever told you, `Tomorrow is a new day’?  Did you believe them?  Have you ever gone to bed tired, confused, frustrated; hoping when you wake up, you will have a new perspective, new determination, new energy, new hope?  Or do you usually say, `Yeah, right; more likely tomorrow will be the same old, same old’?  `Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark,’ they came to the tomb.  First Mary, then Peter with the disciple Jesus loved.  It had been a long Friday, a long Saturday.  What real difference would a new dawn make for those who once followed the Christ?  They had no idea!  Suddenly, they would step in; and they believe!  Mary would hear her name!  They were alive and anew, they had seen The Lord!  Today is not the same old, same old!  We, too, are alive and anew in living grace, for Christ is risen!  Christ is risen, indeed!  Alleluia!

1. As we celebrate today The Resurrection of Our Lord, we are invited to proclaim, to believe, to trust we are resurrected, too, raised to be alive and anew, in the blessings alive in the living grace of The Risen Christ!

A. We are raised to be alive and anew, in all we search for and find in The Risen Christ!
John 20:1,3-7

B. We are raised to be alive and anew, as we hear our name spoken by The Risen Christ!
John 20:16

C. We are raised to be alive and anew, in the forgiveness of The Risen Christ!
Acts 10:43

D. We are raised to be alive and anew, in a new day, a new beginning in The Risen Christ!
John 20:1
E. We are raised to be alive and anew, taking our place in the story of The Risen Christ!
John 20:6-8

F. We are raised to be alive and anew, in the truth of eternal life in The Risen Christ!
Acts 10:40; John 20:9,17

G. We are raised to be alive and anew, in the peace of The Risen Christ!
John 20:2,11-13

H. We are raised to be alive and anew, in the hope of The Risen Christ!
John 20:14-15

I. We are raised to be alive and anew, in the faithfulness of The Risen Christ!
Acts 10:36,39-42; John 20:14-16

J. We are raised to be alive and anew, in the living grace of The Risen Christ!
John 20:18

2. If the glory of Easter is limited to the one time event of the resurrection, then the tomb is not all that is empty.  Thanks be to God, the glory of Easter is a living hope, alive and anew in the every day events of the living grace of The Risen Christ; none of that is empty!
John 20:18

A. If the glory and hope and living grace of Easter do not give us life today, do not raise us up to be alive and anew in new ways today, then the life provided, in the empty tomb, is what is empty.

B. Thanks be to the living God, to the living power of God, to the living miracles of God, to the living Easter grace and the every day living grace of God; the tomb is all that is empty, to really fill us, to really raise us up to be alive and anew in The Risen Christ!

C. Be alive, anew, resurrected, raised to live, in the living grace of The Risen Christ!  For Christ is risen!  Christ is risen, indeed!  Alleluia!

Amen.

The peace of The Risen Christ be with you always.
And also with you.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

The Words of Institution

In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only one foundation
We believe we believe

We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back again

vs. 2
So let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe we believe

(refrain 1 then bridge)

bridge:
Let the lost be found
And the dead be raised
In the here and now
Let love invade
Let the Church live loud

We believe

And the gates of hell
Will not prevail
For the pow’r of God
Has torn the veil
Now we know Your love
Will never fail
We believe
We believe

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit

He’s coming back again
He’s coming back again

All the People Said Amen

Maher

vs. 1
You are not alone
If you are lonely
When you feel afraid
You’re not the only
We are all the same
In need of mercy
To be forgiven and be free
It’s all you got to lean on
But thank God it’s all you need

refrain:
And all the people said “Amen”
Oh and all the people said “Amen”
Give thanks to the Lord
For His love never ends
And all the people said “Amen”

vs. 2
If you’re rich or poor
Well it don’t matter
Weak or strong
You know love is what we’re after
We’re all broken
But we’re all in this together
God knows we stumble and fall
And He so loved the world
He sent His Son to save us all

(refrain)

bridge:
Blessed are the poor in spirit
Who are torn apart
Blessed are the persecuted
And the pure in heart
Blessed are the people hungry
For another start
For theirs is the kingdom
The kingdom of God

(refrain twice)

And all the people said “Amen”

The body and blood of our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in the living grace of The Risen Christ, this day, this most blessed and holy morning, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Risen Lord of life. Amen.

The Risen Lord bless you and keep you. The Risen Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Risen Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, for you are alive and anew, right here, in the living grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

With Easter hearts; let us go in the peace of Christ, alive and anew, right here, celebrating the love of God, and serving The Risen Lord of life.
Thanks be to God! Alleluia!
